Genesis 1:26-28: An Introduction to the Image of God (Sermon Audio)

What does it mean to be made in the image of God?

Last week, I blogged about some of the ways that theologians have tried to answer that question:

The Image of God: Framing the Issues

The Image of God: A Covenantal Proposal

Today, I preached on the subject: “Image is Everything: An Introduction to the Image of God.” Focusing my attention on Genesis 1:26-28, I suggested that God created men and women in his image in three ways.

First, God created us to have personal relationship with him.

Second, God created us to represent him on the earth through ruling creation, resembling his holiness, and reproducing his image.

Third, God created us to bear witness to Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is the true image of the invisible God.

At the end, I showed how the image of God establishes our personal identity, informs our public ethics, and purifies our sexuality activity. This is part of a series on God’s Design for Sexuality.
